Trail running is much more than just another physical activity. It takes the runners on a journey amidst the untamed beauty of nature. Newbie trail runners must first learn how trails are marked and what different trail markings mean before getting ready for their first trail run.
  • Absorb the beauty of nature: One of the biggest appeals of trail running is the opportunity to immerse oneself in natural surroundings. Runners should take a few moments to truly appreciate the beauty around them, like the sounds of rustling leaves, the changing landscapes, the fresh air hitting their face, and so on. 
  • Run with a buddy: People just getting started with trail running should consider finding a trail running group and explore the trails along with them. This would not only make the run more enjoyable, but also help make sure that newbie runners do not get lost. 
  • Do not focus on speed: In case of trail running, the terrain turns can be very technical. Hence, runners must not hesitate to slow down and walk at times. Running fast is not important to trail running. Rather, runners are encouraged to take their time and enjoy the activity rather than prioritizing speed. 

As Steven Rindner says, running on the hills can be time consuming and rocky terrain often slows down the runners. Even if one is an experienced runner, they might have to hike some of the longest and steepest hills. Running on trails, at times, may take much longer than one might have expected.
